A Celebration of Latino Alumni

Our second-ever Celebration of Latino Alumni is fast approaching!  We are now less than three months away from this star-studded event.  The Celebration of Latino Alumni will bring together generations of HLS Latino alumni to Cambridge for an amazing weekend filled with opportunities to reconnect with old friends and to make new and long-lasting friendships bound to last for years to come.

Our Celebration of Latino Alumni will be the biggest gathering of Harvard Law School Latino alumni in history.  And we want you to be there!

The theme of our 2012 conference is Latino Leadership: Our Time Is Now.  As you know, the 2010 Census showed that Latinos are poised to have an enormous say on the future of this country.  Today, there are more than 54 million Latinos (including the almost 4 million American citizens who live in Puerto Rico) in the United States.  And every month for the next 20 years, 50,000 Latinos will turn 18 years of age.  Simply put, the future of Latinos is the future of America.

Against this promising backdrop, we also have disturbing evidence pointing to a lack of nationally recognized Latino leaders.  Most notably, in November 2010 the Pew Hispanic Center released a report where it asked Latinos to identify “the most important Latino leader in the country today.”  Almost two-thirds of respondents (64%) said they did not know, and another 10% could not identify a single person.

Our Celebration of Latino Alumni is designed to change that, and to show – as our conference theme suggests – that our time is now.  It is imperative for all of us to step up and take responsibility for becoming leaders at all levels of society.  This September, we will honor the giants on whose shoulders we stand, and we will showcase our current and emerging national Latino leaders who will pave the way for years to come.

We have assembled an outstanding Conference Agenda for you.

We have also reserved room blocks at hotels in Harvard Square.

Also, if your company or law firm would like to serve as a sponsor for the Celebration, you can find sponsorship opportunities here.

If you are interested in volunteering for this event, we want you to join us!  Send us a note and we will contact you right away.

I  hope that you will do us the honor of joining us in Cambridge.  I look forward to seeing you in September.

Un abrazo,

Andrés W. López ’95, Chairman
HLSA Latino Alumni Committee
