Sample Officer Roles & Responsibilities
The Officers of an HLSA Club/SIG shall be the administrative body of the organization. All Officers shall be elected as provided in the Club/SIG Bylaws.
President

Leads the Club/SIG in achieving the goals and expectations set-forth

Builds a cohesive team amongst the Officers and members of the Club/SIG
-
Assembles regular Officer meetings

Maintains momentum by following up with the Officers between meetings
-
Maintains regular contact with the HLSA Executive Committee and HLS Alumni Relations Office
-
Completes the Club/SIG's annual Certification Survey
Vice President
-
Assists the President with leading and coordinating Officer meetings
-
Provides leadership and coordination for specific events
-
Fulfill the roles of the President when they are unable to do so
Secretary
-
Serve as the custodian of the records for the Club/SIG - this includes creating agendas and taking notes and circulating the minutes to the Officers
-
May also be responsible for logistics for Officer meetings – including communicating meeting dates/locations to the Officers
-
Coordinates the creation/updating of club bylaws with the Officers
Treasurer
-
Maintains a bank account for the Club/SIG
-
Oversees a budget and keeps records of all financial transactions

Collects and distributes Club/SIG's finances (bills, receipts, etc.)

Coordinates with Programming chair(s) and President to ensure that events are within Club/SIG's budget
Membership Chair(s)

Club organizations – membership is based on geographic location determined with counsel of the HLS Alumni Relations Office

Encourage alumni to update their contact information in their AlumniMagnet profile to be subscribed to Club communications

OR Encourage alumni to update their contact information with the HLS Alumni Relations Office by contacting alumrec@law.harvard.edu

SIG organizations – membership is based on identity data provided by the HLS Alumni Relations Office and alumni opting into the SIG

Recruit new alumni to participate in events and subscribe to the SIG's AlumniMagnet platform to receive communications on future programs and events
Technology Chair(s)

Manage the Club/SIG's AlumniMagnet platform, which hosts the organizations' website and online tools (platform provided by the School)

Helps troubleshoot issues with members – as related to the use of the online tools

Responsible for serving as the primary liaison between the Club/SIG and the HLS Alumni Relations Office for technology-related issues, concerns, or requests
Communications Chair(s)

Creates content (clubs news, event announcements, etc.) and coordinates the email distribution with the Technology Chair(s) with the Club/SIG's AlumniMagnet platform

Oversees Club/SIG's use of social media

Coordinates with Programming Chair(s) to deliver event announcements/reminders
Programming Chair(s)

Creates a calendar of events and ensures a diverse variety of activities for the Club/SIG community

Coordinates with Officers to schedule and plan events

Assists with the planning and execution of events
